Here at SDS we believe that innovation is the key to a successful operatory.  As the technology of the industry changes, so does our equipment.  Throughout our history, we have adapted our products with the ever-changing demands of the industry and paved the way for new industry standards.  As the future market expands to include new technologies and new equipment, we will be right there providing doctors with the right equipment, at the right price.

1986 - 1992:

Summit Dental Systems (SDS) was founded by our President and CEO, Cesar Coral, with the vision of heavy duty, quality, and economical dental equipment with a simple screwdriver approach to service if necessary. The result of this vision was the SDS Natural Dental Operatory and the Natural II Ortho/Hygiene Chairs, the first economical hydraulic chairs in the U.S. market.
The Natural Chair featured a single articulating headrest on a manual brake assembly, function rocker switches on both sides of the chair, Patient arm slings with pivoting armrest on the patients' right side of chair and a foot control with automatic patient entry/exiting positioning. The Natural II Ortho/Hygiene Chair featured a hydraulic cantilever base, single articulating headrest and a manual adjusting backrest.

1992 - 1993:

SDS introduces the 2000 Dental Operatory Package, which included the 2000 dental chair, 1300 dental light, 1400 delivery unit and the 1610 cuspidor. The 2000 Dental Chair offered improved features of pivoting armrests on both sides of the chair and the function rocker switches were replaced with membrane button switches for better asepsis control.

The 1300 Dental Light offered dual intensities, heat and glare free illumination with a color corrected glass reflector for proper color matching. The 1400 delivery unit featured two or three automatic handpiece selection with a swivel instrument tray holder and the 1610 cuspidor offered a porcelain bowl with centralized vacuum.

1993 - 1994:

SDS manufactured the 2000 XL Dental Operatory Package that was distributed in 68 countries. The 2000 XL Dental Chair offered more conveniently located membrane button controls, a single articulating headrest with adjustable pillow on a friction brake assembly and an off-set yoke style backrest assembly that allowed the backrest to move fluidly with the patient's back as the backrest was lowered or raised.

This package included an asepsis style delivery system with the 1450 Delivery Unit and 1650 Cuspidor. The 1450 Delivery Unit offered a three handpiece automatic selection with a built-in instrument tray holder on a friction-brake arm assembly; and the 1650 Cuspidor featured quick-release autoclavable Bowl Flush and Cup filler spouts and a low voltage vacuum switch.

1994 - 2001:

The SDS 3000 Series Dental Operatory added programmable pre-positioning to the 3000 XLP Chair at no additional charge, expanded its upholstery color selection and began to offer double articulating headrests as an optional upgrade. The 3000 Series Operatory Package also, offered the all new, 1330 XL Dental Light with asepsis design, the 1400 XL Asepsis Deluxe Delivery Unit and the redesigned 1650 XL Deluxe Cuspidor with post mounted utility center, water quick-disconnect and a break-away housing assembly to avoid accidental damage. Also in this time period, SDS introduced the 1700 Orthodontic Chair, the very first fully hydraulic orthodontic chair making the SDS Orthodontic Chair the most advanced in the industry. SDS also expanded its product line to include a Euro-style delivery systems, hygiene delivery systems, mobile delivery carts, telescoping assistant's arms, ceiling mounted lights, and self-contained water systems. By the end of the year 2001, SDS products were being distributed in over sixty countries worldwide.

In continuing in its traditions, SDS introduced the Biscayne Series equipment line. This series offered many of the premium features found in the dental industry today, at of course, an economical price. For example, the Biscayne Dental and Orthodontic chairs come standard with seamless upholstery, smooth contoured asepsis style surfaces and a wider upholstery color selection. All of our delivery units include asepsis styling, air-actuated arm brake assemblies, and each cuspidor and telescoping assistant's arm features a breakaway housing to avoid accidental damage. SDS: simply a better value.
